Wow good to know I'm not alone in this, and then I have the exact same
issue, hence why I had to send this from gmail, because google was one
of the few sites that did work.

Look through lsmod, or dmesg | grep eth0 might also yield usefull
information.

It shouldn't really be a big problem as long as you kept the old
package, if you did `sudo pacman -U
/var/cache/pacman/pkg/kernel26-2.6.16.20-1.pkg.tar.gz` should work fine.
As long as you can deal with not having glx accleration in X if you
don't want to mess with also downgrading nvidia.
