Speaking unofficially(!) I would say the correct procedure would be to 
fix the packages, but bear in mind that Archie development is at present 
rather slow, and there seem to be other problems, too (see 
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=27942).
Maybe the best procedure, if you want to use Archie as a base, would be 
to help with Archie development.
Of course, I don't want to deflect you from such a noble course of 
action, but there is also larch, which at present is possibly more usable.
