Let's see if I have this right. You're suggesting the following: The current pacman behavior is to store hashes for files in the backup=() array. You're suggesting that pacman automatically assume all files in /etc/ be added as "backup" files, yes? So, in order to do this, we would still have to have the backup=() array for configs outside /etc that are important, but also some sort of nobackup=() array for files in /etc/ to NOT be backed up. I think this is doable, and MAY simplify things, but I haven't thought a whole lot on it.
