are current fixes for 48 bits sufficient to later extend it to 52

Well, just to muddy the waters a bit. Its possible there will be further problems with 52-bit VA's. Its hard to predict what other latent applications are using tagged pointers in bits that aren't affected by the 48bit VA. Plus, the js 1.85 changes just bump the tags a little higher. So anything still using 1.85 with 52-bit VA's will have problems. That is part of the reason why i'm trying to move everything that is still on js185 to mozjs24/38.
