What a great question.
Some books that made an impression on me -- Definitely Gone With the
Wind. The Stand was another one. Also The Small Rain and A Severed
Wasp, both by Madeleine L'Engle. When I was a kid, her Wrinkle in
Time series was huge with me. I read it over and over.
