To put it in a nutshell, 24-bit audio has better resolution than 16-bit. Theoretically, the resolution is supposed to be 250 times more! However, this does not mean that the audio will SOUND 250 times better. In fact, not all ears will notice a huge difference between a 24-bit and 16-bit recording. The best part is, when a 24-bit recording is burnt to a regular audio CD, it is downsampled to 16-bit!
As for ARR, I assume he has started using 24-bit recording with all his gear in Panchattan & Shafee 5! Perhaps sources close to him can throw more light on this...
