U have infact raised the controversy my friend.
See, the comparision doesnt exist..but its not because Rahman gave better music(which is a myth)..but because R.D.Burman's debut happened in 1961...which means 30 yrs before rahman...or say..much before rahman was even born.can u compare like that?
How can you compare artists from two different Times...
And if you believe that R.D didnt give as much better music as rahman did...then, certainly u didnt listen to much of RDB.see, every composer, from yesteryear...gave their best..inspite of the so many ODDs they had..No TV, No hype publicity..their only way of reaching pple was Radio..while today..for that matter..from 90s..we have cable TV..the exposure..the Hype..the way information reached pple is amazing...Also, RD could compose some fantastic timeless gems like Aandhi, Amar Prem or even Ijaazat..the songs or the genre itself cannot be replicated...
My point is...Every Good Composer is great in his own way..Can u compare RD with Naushad,who gave totally pure Hindustani music in film songs...u cant!! because the Times are different..and several factors are included.....for that matter, people dont dare to compare RD with his father, S.D.Burman, one of the phenomenal composers of india. ..then, how can we compare RD with Rahman?
when u compare two composers...look for the pair..who are contemporaries..because both will be facing same resources..and same limitations..and finally..any good output arises out of a perfect balance between these 2 things..namely --> Resources & Limitations.
Today, we cannot compare Ilaiyaraaja with Rahman because they belong to two different times(though IR is still giving music..but majority was from diff time span)., then how can we compare a much senior RDB with rahman. and do you think Awards really
speak about genuine adulation?if thats so, rahman wud have got National Award every year.Did he?
Plz dont rake up controversies...lets discuss rahman's music..and technicalities rather than comparing composers with him...and if u still wish to compare, compare with rahman's contemporaries rather than legends from bygone era, who didnt have so many oppurtunities..technically or whatever..and still created some timeless pieces..which we all listen, even now..and even in years to come.
and i hope my opinion is taken in right spirit.
