After looking at all these news items spreading around saying that
Yuvan and Harris are no.1 in south and Himesh is no.1 in north and
many of you guyz wanting to spread war, I thought may be its time for
all of us to stop criticizing everyone and start questioning
ourselves.
Forget good music, excellent music. In India mostly its about whose
albums sell the most. And that depends on many factors like
publicity, picturisation, many channels playing it and also actors
and actresses in the videos and only finally .how good is the music.
When it comes to fan base for a single music director, no wonder its
gonna be for our music wiz ARR. But frankly speaking how much has our
fanbase contributed to his success. And why is he still not the hot
MD when he has this huge fanbase?
I was very proud when Godfather released, coz many of Ajith fans
went and bought their "thala's" audio cassette and they were very
proud of the album and we on other hand went on saying its mediocre
by ARR or its not the best. But did we all buy the audio cd or
cassette ?? I don't think many would have. We(including me ) rather
resorted in downloading mp3's. ARR was the most selling music
director once when his albums were selling like hot cakes. I still
remember whenever his music album releases I used to buy it first
from the store and play it even b4 the radios play it. But things
changed lately. Nowadays people who buy cds or cassettes are those
who are either anti-mp3's , or those who want to buy the original
stuff, or those who go for clarity and finally the "aam junta" who
dun have computers or who dun know to search in the web. How many of
us in this grp belong to the above mentioned people??
Himesh Reshammiya on the other hand can't even come close to ARR in
terms of standards of music, but surely he can topple ARR in terms of
sales. And why is that ?? Every auto or taxi u drive in north India,
u can hear his music playing. And believe me they are one of the most
people who still buy cassettes. Every music channel u put on the tv,
u c his music playing. The audio cassettes companies like t-series
invest so much in him and his music, put stars, have promotional
videos, make them play every nook and corner that however unbearable
it is, u still can't avoid his crooning. Its like with his music, its
paisa vasool for everyone. The directors, producers who attract huge
crowd bcoz of his chart-busters. The dj's and remix kings who remix
almost every song of his and thus make money and put it in album. The
audio companies which market 5 songs and 5 remixes of the same songs
in one cassette. Every club and dance floors play all those songs and
people just luv it. Radio channels and TV channels broadcast it as
they know most that is the hot things around. And even we hear those
same one's in ringtones.
Yuvan and Harris on the other hand are very much talented MD's but
still far far behind than ARR. But whats the use ? Yuvan does so many
movies a year and mostly college movies. Easily the college crowd
love him and his music. Its also pepply and catchy for them. And for
Harris, he teams up with the now existing hot shot directors or
actors and wins accolades even if his music is mediocre. I still luv
his 12B though that was a flop and I don't like Anniyan though that
was a huge blockbuster. Good music never means good sales. It's a
pity that it isn't the case, but that's the truth guyz.
Not many analyze every music director's music like we do. But wats
the use with that, are we contributing anything towards the success
of the music ? You guyz shud understand that I'm writing all this
with a lot of pain, coz I luv and live on ARR's music and it
disheartens me to write some article which aint talking abt ARR's
success story. But after looking at everything going around in
Bollywood and Kollywood, I've realized its not worth thinking about
No.1 anymore. ARR has already reached hall of fame. And he is going
way beyond the boundaries where nobody will ever reach. Its not worth
fighting over the point that he's the best and not harris or himesh.
As a part of our duty, I think we should rather focus on how to boost
sales of his cds. Lets all buy his original cds or cassettes or dvds.
Every single drop makes a mighty ocean was the line I used to luv
when I was a child. Why not use it in reality. Recently I bought RDB
dvd and I was so proud of owning it. And then I c many asking in the
forums to get bgms of RDB and other movies. Why not u buy the dvds
and get bgms urself. By doing that aren't u adding to the dvd sales ?
Even listening to music, why not all listen to music from different
online streaming websites and not the ones downloaded from some site?
I think we all should come up with our own ways to boost up the sales
or publicity which is the only thing which speaks for the Numero Uno
music director. I was very happy to see spike lee put Chaiyya Chaiyya
in his movie I even got goosebumps watching it and also Bombay theme
was featured in Lord of war. Not many newspapers in India would have
featured this news. Coz for them, it doesn't sell. For them, glitz
and glamour sells. I hope ARR continues to make his music from his
heart and not go by the recent trend. I hope many more RDBs evolve.
And I hope we fans bcom more loyal fans and add to the success of the
gifted son of India .A R Rahman.
