:) [The entrance of ARR of course provided a lot of excitement and the crowd
literally pushed us and gave us too options – stand up or get trampled.

Once we stood, the crowd again gave us 2 options – move off or get pushed and
fall face down towards the side of the barriers kept. Gravity was working
horizontally instead off vertically which when we realized that no matter how
much we love ARR, we need to be alive to enjoy the concert. So we moved over
and started the party. We jumped, danced, yelled (when they sang) and it was
fun. The best fun I have had in a very long time. It was close to 11:30 by the
time we came home (the concert having got over by a little over 10).]

Awesome…smashing…mind blowing…scintillating…These words are not enough to
describe the feeling I have as I am writing this blog now. I am just back from
an A R Rahman concert that was organized by Times of India and I am exhausted
physically but my mind is full of the memories.

Here is an accurate account of the week that was:

Tuesday, April 15, 2008: One of my friends (Let us call her the initiator)
mailed my group saying Times of India was giving off free passes to the ARR
concert. I rejected the idea outright since I didn’t buy the paper and I was
sure there must be some catch. The initiator was all excited and decided we
should go for it which is when another friend of mine (Lets call him the
go-getter – I call him so coz nothing is impossible to him. His people’s skills
are amazing) said that he has the coupons and will try it first thing in the
morning.

Wednesday, April 16, 2008: Both the initiator and go-getter tried for the
tickets. This is when a new rule was put forth. We needed to give the entire
newspaper to a TOI guys standing at various signals across Chennai (it never
occurred to us how big Chennai was until this happened…not that I did anything
towards it sitting at Navalur) in lieu of the free passes. The initiator was
unfortunately unsuccessful (According to her, the TOI editor would have heard a
colorful language had he been before her) which is where the actual talent of
the go-getter came was put to full use. He not only successfully found those
TOI volunteers but managed to get 8 passes from 5 papers in one day going from
one signal to another (reminds us of something doesn’t it?).

Thursday, April 17, 2008: Now we had 8 passes and we were not sure who were all
going. Our group comprises of 8 people of whom 7 are in the country, 5 are in
the city and only 4 decided to go to the concert (the initiator, go-getter, the
observer and me). So I called upon N and the initiator called another of her
friends. Unfortunately 2 passes went waste. I still have them…if anyone is
interested; you are welcome to use them.

Friday and Saturday (not going to talk about what I did on Saturday) went off
in a frenzy of excitement and finally the D day arrived.

Sunday, April 20, 2008: We decided to start off early since our passes were
standing room only we needed to a get good view of the stage and we succeeded
in it as well. Unfortunately a lot of Police were there who were threatening us
with lathi if we so much as got up (horrors of horrors! We were made to sit on
the ground which we did happily by taking a TOI poster and sitting on them :P)
. The entrance of ARR of course provided a lot of excitement and the crowd
literally pushed us and gave us too options – stand up or get trampled.

It was close to 11:30 by the
time we came home (the concert having got over by a little over 10).
