I can only laugh. . Ha ha ha ha ha.
Ok. It's very tough being Rahman indeed. No other composer in the world will be facing such a situation. When Rahman is trying to break the language barrier, we are trying to create it. It's perfectly justified for a Tamil fan to expect Rahman to compose in Tamil(including me). But we have to accept that Hindi reaches many more people than Tamil and English even more. And all those Hindi fans don't necessarily have Hindi as their native language and so does for English. It's an usual tendency for a south indian to think that most north indian's have hindi as their native language. That's not the case - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Languages_of_India I sense sometimes the feeling of a tamil fan is like the first child whose importance diminished since the second child came :) Every fan wants to listen to Rahman's tunes in his language. The best reward for an artiste is seeing his work being appreciated by everybody. So put yourself in Rahman's shoes and think what you would do. Just imagine, each language requires different mindset while composing, regional elements and tastes have to be taken care of. And Rahman impeccably does each time, though not his best everytime, still good and way above the standard and hits his best more frequently than anybody else. I just wonder at his infinite creativity, energy and commitment. Truly it's something divine, beyond mundane. Anybody else would have burnt out by now, or lost his interest. Part of the reason is our obsession with film music, from which language cannot be removed. So it's is not easy for both fans and Rahman. But we should let Rahman with what he does and move to even higher planes musically.
