Championing a cause Mumbai: AR Rahman, Nagesh Kukunoor and actor/director Revathy have come together to support a Chennai-based organisation The Ability Foundation. The organisation provides aid to people suffering from some kind of disability across India.
Nagesh says, "It is a beautiful organisation which sees society as an integrated entity where disabled are on par with the fully able people. Though primarily operating in Tamil Nadu, this organisation has many workers who fan out to different cities across the country to locate disabled people. Then they look at providing them with the necessary aid. What is most interesting is that this body is headed by a woman named Jayshree Raveendran who herself is disabled as she can't hear." He adds, "I'm an ardent supporter of their cause and then Revathy is also one of the prominent faces in this body. Then I have met Rahman too at their events. I know that he too is doing his bit for the foundation. Overall, the organisation is pretty big in Chennai and is gaining momentum at many places. We are only championing their cause so that their word gets spread. I remember there was a concert last year and Rahman was the star attraction. Obviously with big star presence, the funds too come in fast which helps these bodies to help people who really need aid." The foundation also provides the disabled with employment opportunities and also looks at sensitising employers about the need to offer an unbiased and equal opportunity employment to the disabled candidates as the fully fit. http://www.dnaindia.com/report.asp?newsid=1248057 -- regards..
