Partly agree to Dinesh's point about the relative seriousness with which we ingest our music, and steering clear of the "we Punekars are hard to please" clause :-):
I spoke to/read comments of a few such disappointed attendees, one of whom even described the show as "lacklustre". Largely, this seemed because: * they had never heard some of the Tamil songs (esp. the Sivaji ones) before * even songs like 'jaage hai.n' were relatively obscure to them * the screens & speakers closest to the standing sections were not the best * There was a perceptible dip in buzz between songs: perhaps a good emcee was needed when the stage was being set for the next piece * Some were there to 'shack their body' (sic) :-) * Some were there mainly to (re-)listen to their favourite tracks - not really to observe the millions of small & interesting things happening on stage or to discover more of ARR's repertoire * Compared to some other concerts, there wasn't much of a stirring up of the crowd by way of banter (though why one would want this in such a show is debatable). Just a case of one's poison being another's nectar, I suppose. ~Ramanand --- In [email protected], "Dinesh Vaidya" <dnshvai...@...> wrote: > > I will try to reply with my perspective of the show and the "lack of > enthusiasm" from the audience...... > > Being resident of Pune for past 25 years, my conclusion is Pune audience is > different than other cities, such as, they do not make much of noise during > any concert, let it be a movie / classical / light orchestra etc. They like > to listen to the songs with all seriousness and appreciate the nuances and > finer details of any music during the show and AFTER the song and the show is > over, they like to clap and show the appreciation..... a somewhat disciplined > behavior. > > Even for our RAHMANIA shows by The Wandering Souls, we get cheers, and claps, > but the audience does not get up from seat.
