This is bizarre! 930 nominees from 93 categories! And ARR's Godfather (2006) as one of the nominees for 2008? Doesn't it strike you as odd? Come on folks. It doesn't take much googling to figure out so many glaring inconsistencies with this one. There are so many albums that are not even from 2008 at all.
1. The nominations process started last november before the Oscars hawa. Around 46,000 albums from 160 countries were submitted. The nominees list includes chosen and best work in each category from around the world. By the time the winners are announced, it would be a truly stupendous filtering process done by around 8000 judges on a purely non-profit basis. Anyone can apply to become a judge but voting fraud is strictly prohibited. Judges include previous Oscar winners, grammy winners, celebrated veterans, musicians and current generation stars Even if they haven't mentioned who the previous Oscar/Grammy winner are, it doesn't lend much credibility if anybody can become a judge. Voting for a non-profit basis? Is that a fancy term for internet poll? 2. Mozartic Rahman is in this race for this year with Maestro Illaiyraja :) which makes it a special moment to watch. A 2005 concert work against a 2006 soundtrack for the 2009 awards! But why such odd choices? Perhaps they were one of the few independent releases distributed by CDBaby or whatever mechanism that this award ceremony is looking at. I am a little queasy about seeing CDBaby as one of the sponsors when it appears that many (I did check all 20 nominees from Indian albums and Soundtrack category) are distributed by them. I won't call it a scam but any award ceremony that is ok with all these glaring mistakes just ends up having little credibility. And why should one care if Krosswindz made a press releases about their nomination? Just look at the facts for yourself. With so many categories and anyone allowed to join JPF and vote, it's not much of a deal I'd say. Atleast they're not asking anyone for money like the Poetry.com scam. I would have avoided posting this if not for the Rahmantic 'Kalyan'. That one was thought to be a scam and so here I am , trying to correct the confusion. http://www.indiaprwire.com/pressrelease/entertainment/2009072029737.htm
