When you create the active link, you have the Excecute On section that defines when the active link will be fired.
If you don't want it to run on a search, then uncheck the "Search" part of the excecute on.
We all have to start somewhere.

fields on window load of the HPD:HelpDesk form, however when they click
Search for Request, the HPD:HelpDesk form opens in (Search) mode and
they have to delete the auto-populated information prior to searching
(if they are searching for something else). How do I limit an active
link to only run in (New) mode?
Not even sure if I have the lingo right...mode/view?!
