I am in the process of installing 7.0 on a server that has 6.3, and I want to keep both active and separate. Environment:
Windows Server 2003 SQL Server 2000 (for 6.3) SQL Server 2005 (for 7.0) Mid Tier 6.3 IIS 6 ServletExec 5.0 I was able to install ARS 7.0 into SQL Server 2005 and the program files into a separate directory (C:\Program Files\AR System 7), and specified TCP ports for AR System Server and Plug-In Server. The 6.3 instance is using PortMapper. After the installation only one instance was running - the new one. I restored from backup and the existing 6.3 system is running as it was previously. When I initially attempted to install 7.0, at the AR System Server Name screen I entered REMEDYDEV7 (instead of REMEDYDEV) to make it unique. The text on screen includes "To install a new AR System Server, enter a new server name.". Yet when I do enter a different name I get the "The installer is unable to resolve the name "REMEDYDEV7" into an IP address..." message. I can rectify this message by adding an entry into the Windows Hosts file, but that doesn't seem to be the right answer. I searched through the Installation guide and ARS List but did not find the specific steps to get both 7.0 and 6.3 installed on the same computer. What am I overlooking? Thanks. I have a laptop with 5.x, 6.x and 7.x on it. They all run great. No not use port mapper. Specify a different port for each install. example my 5.x server name arsystem5 port 5555 rpc 5556 6.x server name arsystem6 port 6666 rpc 6667 7.x server name arsystem7 port 7777 rpc 7778 midtier is another animal. Everytime I installed midtier it would always update the previous version. I was wondering if anyone had ever done this and run into any problems with the servers fighting over configuration files. I am running on HPUX and am setting things up for each AR System to have a different user etc.. Here are a couple of the specific questions that I had. 1) Can you specify the filepath for the midtier configuration directory (on HPUX it is by default /etc/arinstall) and also /etc/arsystem (where the license and armonitor.conf information lives) during an install? On a regular install, I do not remember seeing an option for this file path. 2) Can I just make a new configuration file and when I start the arserver, can I point it towards that configuration file? Thanks for your responses. -Dave ________________________________________________________________________ _______ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at http://www.wwrug.org ________________________________________________________________________ _______ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at http://www.wwrug.org _______________________________________________________________________________ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at http://www.wwrug.org
