"I haven't done this and it might not be worth the effort, but what if you 
were to create a small, hidden form that stored the start/end dates.  When 
the user enters start/end dates, push the values over, then open your 
report.  Add a sub-report to your Crystal report to extract those values 
and you have the actual date range for displaying."

The approach suggested by Thad is what I have implemented.  This method 
allows us some flexibility to display any parm values used in the 
qualification passed to each Crystal report.
