Having the hardware components as separate CIs, not underneath the laptop/desktop CTIs, could certainly work. While the Incident ticket CTI identifies a problem with a modem or video card, the CI relationship would let me tie in the actual computer model and manufacturer. This will be the first time we are implementing a CMDB, so this is all new territory for me. I am hoping to get some CMDB training soon. ;-) It still seems like a big waste of having to makeup a Tier 3 if it is not really needed, or having to use '- None -' for all of them. Q: Do you lump all kinds of optical drives (CD, CD-R/RW, DVD, DVD-R/RW) under class BMC_CDROM Drive or would you create a new class for DVD drives ? That still leaves the Operational Categories, and it seems that they would be duplicating some of the Product Categories' tiers.
