Yes there are other "more native" solutions for GSM integrations. However sometimes using an interface offers advantages. Using HTTP as a transport to get the message to the providers network is just as valid as using a modem. (And the costs are quite different between the two approaches.) Please feel free to educate us about the things we do not know.
