I notice a big difference in performance when I am logged into my server
via a VPN connection trying to check something in or out versus doing
the same action when on the Local Area Network.  If I had to guess, I
would blame the paltry 384kbps upload speeds that my local ISP throttles
my connection down to for the poor performance.  I can download files at
10Mbps, but sending is an entirely different story!

I also frequently run into situations where the AR System Admin tool
thinks something is checked out to someone, but I'll go to the
SourceSafe client and see that it isn't checked out at all.
Alternately, I'll see that an object is checked out to "Unknown" in the
AR System Admin Tool, but you go to the SourceSafe client and can see it
is checked out to a specific user.
