I offer a service where I upgrade data from ITSM xxx (or other legacy data)
to ITSM 7. It does involve some customisations of scripts but is very
reasonably priced given the normal monumental development and manual task of
moving the data. I have moved requesters, support staff, groups, tickets,
assets and all related data successfully several times and am moving changes
as well as all of the above for BMC itself on a project when the development
is done.

The data migration aspect is a 1 - 3 month effort for development, which
involves mapping the classes used and any attribute abnormalities (for
example, in one implementation the "Item" on an asset held two values: the
manufacturer and the model), as well as holding mapping workshops. I am
able to take a small set of complete "trees" during the mapping workshops so
that only a quick job moves the complete set of data. That way, any mapping
changes (such as splitting values etc) are done during the workshop itself
and the results are available instantaneously.

Implementation is usually done over the migration weekend and all data is
transferred during that weekend. Records will be available in the correct
status and correct assignees and groups even if there have been group
changes etc.

Please contact me off-list for more information.

Cheers

**
Julie,

We worked on our upgrade from ARS 6.3/ITSM 5.5 to ARS 7/ITSM 7 for many
months. We found that this is quite a large task and I would personally
recommend that you use a BMC Consulting Partner to help you with this
project. The applications are so greatly different from the the old ITSM
applications that the upgrade/implementation/data conversion will seem like
a monumental task. In the past my company has worked with several
BMC/Remedy partners and the only one that I would recommend for this task is
IT Prophets. I have included the contact information for IT Prophets in the
email. If you any specific questions for me, please let me know.

Good Luck.

Subject: ITSM 7 - Upgrade advice?

**
We are starting to plan our upgrade from 6.3 to 7.x. (as well corresponding
ARS and CMDB upgrades, and, to make things interesting, a move from Oracle
db to SQL).

I know there are a lot of posts here with questions/answers/advice. Was
wondering if anyone had suggestion on how best to peruse those?

And/or I am also looking at BMC support site and have found some webcasts
as well as WBT's that look interesting, so if there any suggestions on
other good information on that site, that would be welcome.

One thing we are trying to determine sooner than later is whether we will
need consultant assistance with this or if we can do most on own (1 admin
with 2 yrs of experience, 1 new one).

Thank you,

Julie
