> So basically one AR Server license would be good for all the servers
in the server group? Or must their individual AR Server license be input
into the license database?

No.

>From the FAQ:

Q: But each server requires a unique key - so I need multiple rows for
servers, right?

A: Yes. Servers are unique rows, so you will see one row per server.
However servers are the only license type that now requires multiple
rows.

> What is the name of the table holding the licenses? Is it a meta
table?

It's a hidden table. It's best to just use the Admin Console to access
it.

> Will the option arsignal -l <servername> now be obsolete?

The option is still there. Since the server groups now share the same
database, you may find less need for it, though. Changes to the "number
of licenses" for a given license type, for example, happen immediately
once you've submitted the changes in the Admin Console. An exception
would be the unlicensing of a server - if you disable the server
license, you'll need to reboot the server to have that take effect.

You may want to read through the FAQ and documentation. It should cover
a lot of your questions. The documentation is up and available on
Support Central.

        From the FAQ:

Q: What about servergroups? How will they work if there's no
.lic file anymore?

A: Servergroups will all point to a common database - and thus
each server in the group will have access to the same license
information. It is no longer necessary to have unique licenses for
floating users, for example, on each server.

Q: So can I have multiple rows of user licenses per server like
I had in my .lic file?

A: There is no need for this anymore. Only one row per license
type is needed and represents the maximum number of licenses for that
type. For example, if you used to have rows within the .lic file that
represented keys for 10, 15, and 30 users each; those rows would be
collapsed into one row that had 55 user licenses defined.

As always, thank you David for answering my questions. But I
think I have a few more on the same topic..

So basically once you upgrade from 7.0.x to 7.1.0, could we
delete the folder /etc/arsystem/<xxx>?? Or its equivalent tree in
Windows? I did read somewhere on the release notes that the
multilicense.lic file is obsolete too for the same reason i.e. the
licenses are now stored in the database..

So if the licenses are stored in the database, how will that
impact 'shared servers' or 'server group' AR System database. How will
each server be able to identify and validate its own license? In what
table are these licenses stored in and what is the column identifier
that each server will use to identify its licenses and ignore the rest?

I hope these aren't too many questions..

        Joe

                From the FAQ:

Q: What about my existing AR System Server? How will my
licenses be converted to this new model?

A: During an upgrade, AR System 7.1.00 will
automatically convert an existing .lic file to the new model. In
addition, after installation, the ability to import a previously created
.lic file will be available within the Administration Console.

Q: So it will update the .lic file?

A: No. Licensing in AR System 7.1.00 is now kept within
the database, not in a file. The .lic file will no longer be needed in
AR System 7.1.00.

                Thanks,

Does this mean you have to 'upgrade' the arsystem.lic
file as was done in the past when there were changes made with the
license format when upgrading its earlier versions?

Has anyone figured out the new licensing? I see form the
release-notes-710.pdf (pg. 8) the following:

                Enterprise features
                ! Customer-driven license enforcement system-License
keys are no longer used to enforce limits for any license types except
server licenses.
Customers must self-enforce limits for all other AR
System and application license types.
