While Fred and Gary is right about the SA password being asked only on install,
I'd like to point out that we do not require the SA password or account at all
for upgrades..

The reason we need an SA password during an install is because the AR System
installation script requires to create the ARSystem database, and the ARAdmin
user (different names of custom database and owner name is chosen). Once this
is done, the ARAdmin user (or whatever the custom owner may be) assumes
complete ownership of the ARSystem database.

So during an upgrade you require your own database username and password and do
not require the SA username and password at all. Any changes to the SA account
should have no bearing on your ARSystem database access. They could manage the
SA account independent of your Remedy system..

Cheers

Joe

Actually I think when you change the password in the Admin tool it will
change the password on the database for the ARAdmin account.

You are correct that SA is only used during the install. Our DBAs do
not let us know the SA password (When we do an install/upgrade they
change SA to something easy for us and then change it back when we are
finished).

Michael, that password I believe is for the ARAdmin account. I went
through this awhile back, and they also changed my ARAdmin account
password.

>From what I understand, the ARSystem just uses SA to create the ARAdmin
account. From that point on, it uses the ARAdmin account.

If your DBAs or Security people change the ARAdmin account, then you
simply update it via the admin tool that you list below. Remedy will
instantly pick up the new change.

Please, anyone, if any of this is incorrect, then please correct me, but
I believe that what I stated above was true.

Subject: Changing SA passwords

**

Listers,

A couple of our servers were identified in a scan the other
day as having "weak" sa passwords for SQL Server. We've been told to
change them, but I want to be sure that it's not going to stop AR System
from functioning correctly. I imagine there's a setting for the sa
password somewhere, as they ask for it during a server install, but I'm
not sure where it's located. Is it the database password field in the
admin tool? (Server information > Database)

Thanks,
