The new admin tool is a very new beast if it is at all close to what we saw
at UserWorld,

And a really slick one at that, I would give it an 11 out of 10.

However, if they don't change their minds,

you can also change the behaviour of the admin tool

With your own extensions.

This has good and bad.

The good is you can add the features,

Or 3rd parties can build new features.

The bad is, just try and be Support when the first question you have

To ask is: have you modified your admin tool and how?

It makes it much easier for the end user (developer) to break the system

By doing a bad extension to the admin tool.

I hope that some of the delay is them building in some data integrity
protection

To protect the developer/admins from themselves, and hence from destroying
the

System without even knowing it.

1 day to even a week is not bad at all.. I was only hoping it wasn't a new
beast, a mutation like it seems to be from the two descriptions, to adopt to
new technologies is fine by me!

I'm also assuming that the core ARSystem database structures would remain
the same with minimal changes to incorporate some new features..

I wonder if BMC would be willing to organize a pre beta release webcast to
demonstrate the new version elaborating on new features that would
definitely make it to 7.5..

Scott, Rick, thanks for your responses..

Cheers

** I would agree with Scott. I was prepared for a learning curve in the 1
week range, but after seeing it, it's probably more in the 1 day range, and
that would include installation and enough familiarity to be useful. Of
course, we'll all probably try to do some things the "old" way a few times
before realizing that there is a better way!

In terms of functionality, we should see some welcome and long-desired
increases. I think once a developer really gets the tool customized the way
(s)he wants it, it would probably be more productive than the current one in
short order.

Joe,

I know you didn't ask me but. . . I saw the demonstration of the new Admin
Tool at BMC UserWorld and I was basically blown away. I think you'll like
the enhancements and I would suggest the learning curve would be "minimal"
at best. I do not come from a traditional programming background and have
never used Eclipse, but from what I saw in the demo, the new tool appears to
be very easy to use. I would say that on a scale of 1-10 (10 obviously being
extremely different) I would put it at a 10 (and, in my mind, that's
actually a GOOD thing).

David,

This may have been discussed before but if it has I have missed it.

Interface-wise, on a scale of 1 to 10, how different will the Eclipse based
Admin tool be from the current one? The aim of my question is to get an
insight into there'll there be a significant learning curve involved for
those of us who have been working for a while on the AR System?
