FYI

The different binaries of NetCool are fine with different versions of ARS.
You just need to make sure that the .so's that NetCool uses match the
NetCool binary you have. It does not need to match the ARS server you have.
That being said, one can restrict the ARS server from talking to older
clients but one rarely sees this. IBM often has a long gap between a new
ARS version and a new release of the Gateway.

The ARS Server communicates back to the Gateway though the Alert mechanism.
NetCool registers itself as an Alert receiver.

ARTCPPORT overrides all code in the binary.

If a NetCool Alert is not arriving on the server you will see an ARS error
message in the NetCool logs. Check that out and you should know where
your problem lies. The initial submit is though the API and the Record ID
is returned as part of that call. Any workflow will result then in Alerts
and NetCool will parse the text of the Alert for expected messages.

There are other "useful" client-side environment vars. ARAPILOGGING=n (1.
2?) will build a couple of log files that will be useful if the problem is
not obvious.

Cheers
Ben

** We ran into this Issue couple of days back when we switched our servers
from Portmapped to manual port assignment.

Try the following...
a) Check if this variable is set in the Gateway config file..

          TCP_FLAG = TRUE # Use TCP functionality

b) Set the ARTCPPORT value in the Environment Variable.

The Netcool Gateway has its different binaries for different versions of
Remedy. The NCG readme explains which binaries to use for the specific
Remedy versions. When you upgrade Remedy, you need to change the Netcool
Gateway to use the proper binaries.

Port issues with Netcool Gateway connecting to ARS 7.1

We just upgraded our server from Win32/ARS 6.x to Linux/ARS 7.1. We also
use Netcool and I'm having trouble getting Netcool's Remedy Gateway to
connect to the new server. Couple questions:

We're running ARS on port 9901. Clients connect fine and I can see in a
netstat -a that it's listening, but nmap from another machine does not
see the port 9901 open. I assume it's a TCP port.

No firewalls are enabled.

Netcool support also wants me to telnet to the server using port 9901
and verify the credentials to login. I do not get a response trying to
telnet to the port.

Should this work?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
James
