Are you running short on Floating User Licenses? I know in the past, the following could happen this was in 6.3 days... User Logs in - gets floating write license, works away. user goes to sleep, er meetings, etc write license returned, user has floating read license user opens FormX and tries to save - if no write license was available at THIS time you got the error you mentioned. Note that if you LOGIN and there are no write-floating licenses you receive a pop-up box stating such.
