** Ok, thanks for that info. I go it. :)

I'm in the remedy installer where it lists ip address, port, instance name,
db name, db id, server db pw, etc. I've entered the appropriate info. When
I click next, I am still getting the message:

tcp/ip connection to the host (#) using port number 1433 failed.

You can find the instance name through the SQL Config Mgr. Under the SQL
Server Network Configuration branch, there will be another branch that says
Protocols for <Servername>.

Or you can open up your Services (i'm assuming you're on a Windows box),
find the SQL Server process, your instance name will be in brackets beside
it.

i see the instance name?

In your SQL Configuration Manager, did you set your TCP/IP ports to 1433?
The instance name should be what you called your SQL Server database when
you installed it. When you log into the Configuration Manager (if you
installed the SQL management tools) you should be able to see the Instance
name.
