Under the SQL Server Network Configuration branch, there will be another branch that says Protocols for <Servername>. Or you can open up your Services (i'm assuming you're on a Windows box), find the SQL Server process, your instance name will be in brackets beside it. The instance name should be what you called your SQL Server database when you installed it. When you log into the Configuration Manager (if you installed the SQL management tools) you should be able to see the Instance name.
