Yup,

I do understand the security reason why the browser security does not allow
that. I was just hoping to somehow work my way around it. The solution that we
ultimately are trying is saving the contents of the inventory scan to a MS-SQL
database with a key that would be known to Remedy, and having a Oracle - MS-SQL
db link fetch that record. We haven't yet done it but having failed at almost
every attempt to grab the file using native Remedy workflow, we decided going
through the DB route..

You understand why it's not allowed, right?  The ability of a web based
application automatically grabbing a file off of your hard drive simply because
it knows where it is...that's dangerous java script right there...I do see the
point of it's usefulness in a legitimate sense, but I also see why it's not
capable of doing it...

Yes I meant pick a file up from a location, that is already known..

For e.g. our systems people have a utility they have developed which once run
on a PC, would inventory the PC, extract details of every software, their
versions etc that have been installed on it, extract details like the
machine ID, host ID etc, and report it all to a html file whose name is static
and known, and write it to the windows temp directory, which is again
C:\Windows\Temp on all the machines enterprise wide.

So lets say we know that the file is called inventory.html so we need to attach
C:\Windows\Temp\inventory.html automatically with the attachment field hidden
and all that good stuff.. Works like a charm on the WUT.. But its unsupported
on the thin client.. Even the documentation on the help file says that on the
web the browse dialog is always displayed. And thats what I have experienced.
Irrespective of if you provide the file path and name as the second parameter,
on the web the file does not get added and the browse dialog is always
displayed.. This is when you do it using an Active Link. I haven't tried using
a Filter but I'm assuming using a Filter will pick the file from the server
path so will not work if I tried picking my client path anyways.

Joe,
I use the 'attachment form' method of attachments...so I have a form with an
attachment field, and a table field listing the attachments added already.  To
Add to this list I open a dialog window with 3 simple buttons.

1 - Add - has a single al with this run process action
PERFORM-ACTION-ADD-ATTACHMENT 900501001.  900501001 is the field ID of the
hidden attachment field I have on the dialog window
2 - Save - Performs a push from my attachment dialog to my attachment form
3 - Cancel - closes the window without doing anything

This has been functional in 7.1 several patches, if not initial release for
quite some time...I guess I never read the admin books close enough to realize
that it didn't work.

If by 'it will not automatically add the attachment' you mean you can't add a
file without a dialog...sure...I guess I've never tried to do that as I want
them to choose the file to be attached :)

Ok I didnt state what does not work. It partially works, meaning, you cannot
use the second parameter on the web (path of the file). It does automatically
open the file browser, but will not automatically add the attachment.

Even the help on the function clearly says that the automatic addition of the
file to the field will not work over the web. Did you somehow got that to work?

It is probably the same reason why Perform-Action-Add-Attachment doesn't work
(and is not supported) over the web. Even the manuals and the Help files say
that it works only on the Windows User tool.

That's just the way it is with attachments from the web....nothing that I know
of that you can do about it.

Subject: Problems with attachment

Hi,
I'm experiencing a strange problem with ARS6.3 and HD5.6. If I create a ticket
from the WEB and attach a file, only the filename is stored, while if I do the
same from the client, all the path is storede. It's a huge problem for me, any
suggestion?
