One possibility is that you could even have a copy of the Java plugin server 
running - i.e., it didn't stop correctly when the AR server was stopped 
previously.  You could determine that by running the following command with the 
Remedy processes stopped:

ps -ef | grep -e java

That will list all Java processes running on the system.  You could look at the 
command line arguments to try to determine if one of them looks like it would 
be the plugin server.  If it is, kill it, and then try restarting Remedy.
