Frex,

In addition to what I wrote in the last email, if you have more than 1 server
in the pre-production node, for the second server onwards, you do not need to
delete any entries anywhere. Just configure the new server group name in the
ar.conf file..

Kelly,

The issue you point out mostly come for those using ITSM applications. If you
are replicating servers, that do not have any other OTB apps, you will not have
those forms like CAI, AST, etc. Server ranking yes if you have the server
turned on for server groups.

A process I went through a year ago may come useful to bulk modify these forms.
A year ago I had the requirement for changing the login names from what used to
be the older form of remedy login names when the login name field was not long
enough to accommodate long email addresses (yes I have come across email
addresses that were more than 30 chars in length.) With that limitation removed
with login names field stretched to 254, one of my customers decided to change
the login names to email addresses..

Almost all the fields except the diary fields, where login names are stored,
either have textual names like login name or assigned to or submitter etc.. I
collected this trend and wrote a SQL to grab all such field names and table
names they were in.. replaced the data needed to be replaced with a SQL script.

You can use the same method as that to write a script to change information in
forms like CAI*, AST*, SYS* etc..

I'd love to hear from anyone who has done this successfully and not had pain
down the line. This was done at FAA, prior to my joining the team. Here are
places we've found bad server references and God knows how many I haven't found
-
  *CAI:AppRegistry
  *AR.conf
*Server Ranking (and all the server group tables)
  *AST:ARServerConnection
  *TMS:AppliationRegistry
  *SYS:Escalations
  *SYS:Attachments
** any work flow that didn't maintain it self server independent or where the
Advanced option was used to purposely point to a specific server

    ** Dear all,

We sat up a preproduction remedy server (cloned from one of the
production nodes in a server group) and we also copied the server group remedy
database. We managed to get the preproduction server working along with EIE and
the rest of the services.. However some of the objects (server group tables in
particular) are still being references at server start up (at least). In the
Admin tool, I still see the server group name being read from
servgrp_config table etc... I Did a select on sysobjects and saw the
followings:

          servgrp_config
          servgrp_applic
          servgrp_board
          servgrp_op_mstr
          servgrp_userlic

So the question is which of the above 's data can be removed without
compromising the system. Are there any other forms /tables e.g (server
operation ranking) whose data needs to be updated to bear the new configuration
for the new server.

          Many thanks
          frex
