Correct - one way to avoid those performance hits with Oracle is to utilize the BMC Remedy Full Text Search add-on. It includes the ability to do case insensitive searches among its other benefits.
FTS can, of course, be used with any database - so it could be used to provide case insensitive searches within SQL Server (or Sybase, or DB2, etc...) as well. -David J. It's possible to take a 50% performance hit with it enabled. Tauf Chowdhury | Forest Laboratories, Inc. SQL is by nature case insensitive where as Oracle is case sensitive. I believe there is a setting in Oracle at the time of install to make Oracle case insensitive. Of corse I am not a DBA and could very well not have a clue as to what I am talking about.
