I did a Meta-Update script for a customer that had 12000 assets in
ComputerSystem class that were not computer systems but should have been in
a bunch of different classes including some of their own classes.

They had these assets for a year and they had been worked in that changes,
people, tickets etc were all associated.

A single Meta-Update script read a controlling spreadsheet and then fixed
the product catalogue and replicated the assets, and all relationships,
associations, contracts, maintenance, etc, to the right classes. A second
script deleted the original erroneous computer systems.

If you have a single asset, by all means do it by hand. If you need to
automate it consider Meta-Update.

Hi,

This asset was loaded via a python script that loads data into BMC_Printer,
BMC_Chassis, BMC:CORE:BMCBaseElement, etc...

My understanding this is supposed to be loaded via federation. Some else
believes its OK to load directly into the tables.

Kathy,

How did that printer get into CMDB? Was it a discovery tool? Manual upload?
Topology Discovery? Based on your answer, there are several paths of
complication that you must go through to achieve this.. especially if you
want automation.

Subject: CMDB 2.1 Question

Hi,

I have an asset identified as a printer in the CMDB_PRINTER CLASS - and the
asset is not a printer, it is actually a CHASSIS. How do I move the asset
into the CHASSIS CLASS? I tried to select the Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3 - and
of course that is not going to work because it only gives PRINTER CLASS
values.

There must be a way to redefine this asset as a CHASSIS.
