For the specific example you quoted you could simply search on the operating system form. OS's are related to computers by weak relationships and, out of the box, the name of the parent propagates to weak child. The name of the computer is therefore available in the SystemName field of the OS CI. There is an API call you can use to get the data. So, if you had the criteria and could pass it to something that could make the call, then return the data..... But, I don't believe there is a way to just get the data from the CMDB result screen since that is not done in an AR System table.
