Thanks for the other responses.  To answer the questions:

There's no clearly identifiable server in the Error Log records - the Generated By field says "Mail Box". Though there is perhaps a clue that it's the mail server, which I'll pass on to our mail admins.

The messages I care about are apparently filtered on the message body. I have been manually altering them to strip out the spam data (say, a complaint about spam that lists the spam within it), and then I'm able to successfully send the messages.

But I'll talk to my email admins when they have time.

We have issues with Remedy refusing to sent outbound email due to
its spam content.  The problem is that this error also affects
legitimate notices about tickets whose field data sometimes includes
spam information.  This can cause a group to not be notified about a
case assigned to them.
