I think the reason that this works is that the full 11g client creates a soft link from the libclntsh.so.10.1 file to libclntsh.so.11.1. If you do this for the Instant Client it may work. Interestingly the compatibility matrix for 7.6.03 says that the Oracle 11g client is required but the server is compiled using the 10g files. I'm going to check this internally and will let you know.
