Hi,

Yes the 117 method is not going to help. This is where you have AREA (external
authentication) and the user types one name that matches the login name, then
if 117 is populated, it's that value that is sent to the AREA.

So that's not what you want.

I guess this is why BMC built the CTM:People form, so the application can use
the first and last name.

This also doesn't have anything to do with SSO, as you correctly stated, as SSO
is about identifying the user record with a central source. After you have
logged in then the authentication method doesn't matter.

If you are using your own designed app, then create something like the people
form and have the login name hidden in the field so you have the unique
reference back. Otherwise I am not sure how you will be able to do this.

Kind regards
Danny

Subject: User Login Alias

ITSM 7.6.04 sp2 Oracle RedHat WebLogic

Current customer would like users to authenticate in Remedy using a special
network login ID but then have their full name be used when creating/updating
records. I trie using the special field Authentication Alias (117) on the User
Form would provide this functionality but it provides ths opposite of what is
required. According to BMC the functionality we are looking for is not possible
unless we do some custom coding in the midtier. I think they are talking about
an SSO solution but am looking for other possible solutions.

Thank you

Frank Caruso
