For customization of form properties (like archive, audit, change history, etc.. ) you have to create the overlay of the form only and then modify those properties. For customization of field basic properties (like any of the field database properties) you have to create the overlay of the field and then modify field properties. Field being part of the form itself, we have to first create the overlay of a form and then overlay of the field is possible For customization of field display properties (like any of the field display properties) you have to create the overlay of the view as the display properties are owned by view. Again View being part of the form itself, we have to first create the overlay of a form and then overlay of the view is possible
In your original post you mentioned that you added some field to the overlay form. The fields added to overlay form are commonly known as custom fields and to make them part of view one has to create the view overlay as well. Then only you will be able to see those custom fields in user area. All customizations are to be done after the overlay is created. So Best practice customization mode is the correct mode to work with Amol -----Original Message----- From: Young, Ronald P. No new views or anything like that is needed? Whatever out of the box you see on Overlay object is coming from Base, if you delete overlay object then base object will still be intact but it's not other way round. Concept of an Overlay is to Preserve your customization during upgrade process. If you do any customization on base objects then you would lose them but customizations on overlay object always remain unbroken. -----Original Message----- From: Action Request System discussion list(ARSList) [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Ron Sent: Monday, June 24, 2013 6:41 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Overlay I am new to Developer Studio. My question is about forms that are listed as an overlay. What is the best method to work on an overlay... Base or Best? Then also, I have tried to add fields to it and the fields are showing and I have also entered the workflow for it and it looks good there but when I go back into the user area and run the form the new fields aren't there. Do I need to create a new view under that form and add the new fields to it or what? Thanks for any and all help. _______________________________________________________________________________ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org "Where the Answers Are, and have been for 20 years" _______________________________________________________________________________ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org "Where the Answers Are, and have been for 20 years" _______________________________________________________________________________ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org "Where the Answers Are, and have been for 20 years" _______________________________________________________________________________ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org "Where the Answers Are, and have been for 20 years"
