Hi,
Even truly custom forms should've been created in "Best Practice Customization"
mode. If the custom forms were created in Base Mode or an earlier version,
there is a Dev Studio plug-in that allows conversion of existing objects into
custom objects. The Developer Studio online help AND last week's webinar on
"Overlays and Customizations" includes a treasure trove of information on
overlays and development modes.
The text below is quoted directly from Developer Studio 8.1.0 Help ---
" WARNING BMC strongly recommends that you do not create or modify objects in
Base Development mode. If you do, your changes might be lost when your AR
System applications and servers are upgraded. The only exception to this
recommendation is that you must use Base Development mode to reverse
non-permitted modifications made to origin objects.
* "Best Practice Customization (Default)
BMC recommends that you use this mode for developing and managing
your applications.
* Base Development
This mode should be used only by BMC application developers
"
Hope this also helps.
Michelle

Not if it's a truly custom form that was created in Base Mode. If it is an OOB
form then create overlay.

Hi,
The best approach is to create overlay in best practice mode.

Thanks Karthik. Also, let me know if that is the right thing to do by
bringing a form that states unmodified (in Base and Best Practice
Modes) and then convert it to custom in Best Practice Mode or is it best to
just overlay it in Best Practice mode?
Thanks,
Ron Young

Quick question for you all. I brought a form from basic and converted
it to custom. Right or was I wrong in doing that? Then I went in and made some
fields required which worked fine but then I also made some fields hidden and
this did not work. I am not sure if the cache needs to be flushed for this to
work or not but that has not been done.
Is that needed? I don't have access to the confi tool since our Remedy Server
is maintained by our IT group. I did log out and then log back into Remedy and
those areas that I made hidden are still there.
What do you think?
Is it always best to flush cache after editing a form or not?
