Do you have the AR server set to limit the number of rows returned? How many rows (and how big is each row) you are trying to return?
What are the Java memory settings you are using in the Mid-Tier? I tried BMC Communities but didn't find anything useful and BMC's support site appears to be down at the moment with a bad gateway error. I am running 8.1 on Linux.
