Hi Joe,

VirtualMachines are fantastic. Use them if you can. If you have a VM you can
do a lot of things like:
- move it to another machine if needed
- make a clone and try an upgrade, then revert back to the original
- take snapshots and revert to the snapshot state after doing some testing
- ...

Just stick with the native OS of your liking, and then use the VM OS that you
feel comfortable with.

It is easy to give it for example 8GB memory to start with, and then you can
tune the memory down to a minimal after the installation.
