we don't want "snapshot/integration versions cleanup and Deleting old
versions". We just want the mapping of maven2 to maven1 layout.

The Wiki states that this is possible:

For example, the remote repository http://download.java.net/maven/1 stores
its artifacts according to the Maven 1 convention; you can configure the
cache repository to use Maven 2's layout so that it will handle Maven 2
requests and artifact storage, and configure the remote target to use Maven
1's layout so that outgoing requests will be translated to Maven 1's
convention.

Artifactory is hitting our old repository with requests in Maven2 format,
even though we specify this repository to be of the Maven1 type.

Why is this not working for us?

Please post a valid configuration file for the above setup so that I can
check this against my configuration.
