If I am not wrong, the filestore are the artifacts indexed. Try to cat data/filestore/<whatever>/<hash> and you will see a binary file with some readable characters (I think those are the metadata). If you dont want to lose your artifacts, you need to copy the filestore. Why not to do during the export process? I think it is for performance.
