Agreed, I think a list of the current "bells and whistles" would help a lot in terms of thinking what to trim. My two cents is that shifts in increments of f_rtio/4 would definitely be fine enough for DUC. I have spelled out in previous emails why I think there is a very compelling physics case for us to be able to run at 800 MSPS/1 GSPS (8x f_rtio at 100 MHz or 125 MHz RTIO freq, respectively), so I am willing to sacrifice a lot of other "features" in order to achieve this higher sample rate. However, among the features is one thing that I think is very important for us (but all can be debated at this stage), namely having the envelope for the upconverted sine waves update at the full 1 GSPS update rate. This is relevant for both the Oxford fast laser gate and the magtrap, where we want to be able to do pulse shaping on rise/fall times in the ~5-15 ns range. I would also point out that if for some reason this SAWG gateware does not meet people's needs down the line, one can pay to have a different version developed which chooses a different set of tradeoffs. _______________________________________________ ARTIQ mailing list https://ssl.serverraum.org/lists/listinfo/artiq
