In the real world you get fired for non-performance. They better not
use our tax dollars to buy this guy out. Look harder. I am sure
there are some skeletons in the closet.
State: Asbury Park school board cannot use state aid to fund
superintendent's buyout

ASBURY PARK The state Department of Education today said the city
school board cannot use state aid, which funds most of the school
budget, to fund a proposed $600,000 buyout of Superintendent Antonio
Lewis.
Acting Commissioner Lucille E. Davy said in a letter to school board
President Robert DiSanto that the board would have to use local tax
money for the buyout.
A majority of school board members want Lewis out and an agreement
had been reached that he would resign.
Last week, the board's estimate of the buyout was $400,000 to
$500,000. But Davy put the cost at $600,000. She said $150,000 would
resolve a settlement between Lewis and a previous city board, and
that he was to be paid an additional $450,000.
The state has tried repeatedly to get information to support the
payment of certain
amounts in the agreement but could not get that information from the
board or its
attorney, Davy wrote.
DiSanto said the board has provided the state all the information it
can.
"The problem is with the sick time and vacation time,'' DiSanto
said. "There are no records, so there's nothing to provide. We
provided them with everything we have, but certain times just don't
exist.''
The board plans to meet at 6 p.m. today. The board is expected to
suspend Lewis.
"We're certainly not going to raise our tax levy here in town,''
DiSanto said.
"We're looking at our other options and going to do what's best for
the district.''
