There was a group that got together to try to save the Mayfair. I've been
told that the group did file a lawsuit on a friday, but did not secure a
temporary restraining order to stop demolition. Reade brought in the wrecking
ball
on Sunday, before the Court re-
opened on Monday. Info I got from some old-timers.
Thanks. I do vaguely remember that Sunday Stunt.
What a turncoat. Helen Pike's book says that Asbury Park was the second
largest location of theaters after New York City for the Walter Reade
Organization.

My first movie was there. Fuzzy recollections - I was about 11 when it was
destroyed.
I believe I saw 2001 A Space Odyssey there, if not the St. James. I didn't
understand it, but Matt Matlin did explain the monolith to me. <grin>

I saw Five Easy Pieces and Medium Cool at the not-so-grand Lyric Theater. I
remember those because they were quite radical for AP back then.
