Sadly, the issue of the trees being cut down has been going on since the beginning of the year - there was pretty extensive coverage in the tri-City News and the Coaster (don't recall that stellar beacon of journalism the Asbury Park Press quite catching on to the coverage). From conversations with people in City Hall, there was no other option or alternative and the trees had to go......it seemed to me back then (as it still does), that the utility companies and our local government saw an opportunity to re-do all the pipes and electrical lines using Fed $$, and took it.
