I don't think it's the worst thing in the world that could have happened.
Callery Pears are pretty tough trees and they actually stay green for quite a
while, not to mention they look nice later in the fall. I'm not sure what
cultivar is planted in Asbury, but I'm assuming it's "Bradford". Unless you
prune it very early on, this one is sort of doomed to the limb breakage. It's
sad to see the trees go, but there are plenty of fast growing trees out there
for replanting, especially Ginko. There should be larger openings in the
sidewalk for bigger green spaces. I think that would be a great thing to have.
Over by the pizza place it looks like there is room for a lot of plants. Old
Man Rafferty's had a nice little setup. I think they even had a datura plant
in one pot. I wasn't sure if that was a mistake or intentional. They also
have a potted apple tree that fruited in front. Keeping plants in very large
planters is just as good as street trees. Big concrete planters would be nice.
There are so many plants that can replace the trees. I would volunteer my
efforts, maybe put in some hardy/semi-hardy palm trees in.
