Hello,
I am fourth year undergraduate student of mechanical
engineering. I wish to work on student project on modelling of renewable
source of energy. Presently, I have taken a course of 'Numerical Heat
Transfer and Fluid Flow' which requires to do a project work on a practical
problem. Though theme was already mentioned that it has to be based on
renewable source of energy. Luckily I found this project which I suppose is
suitable for my course work. Though initially, I intended it to be a
theoretical project , but now since such nice project is available, I would
even like to add some simulation part to to my project {thanks to ascend}.
Currently, since this project is even open for gsoc I would even like to
participate for it. Even though, I have started late for the current gsoc
session , I would incorporate more effort and try my best to be part of it.
As the deadline for submission of project proposal is almost there, I have
accelerated the things , so at-least I am able to submit a decent proposal
for the project.
My current status for the project is as:
- Build ascend from source and was able to run it { after some tweaks}.
- Viewed tutorials and did run some simple models to understand the syntax
and get comfortable with it.
- Currently going through the documentation and 'how to' manuals to
acquainted in developing ascend model.
- Going through the book 'Solar Engineering of Thermal Processes' so as to
learn the detail working of a solar power plant , {while already acquainted
with Thermodynamics by Cengel since being course book.}
I have experience of programming in C/C++, Python-2 and mostly
Fortran-90 especially in my B.Tech project for simulation of wind climate
and generating CFD codes. So even its my first time I feel that I should be
able to contribute to this project.
[I would prepare a page to give you some view at my abilities and even
post there some code samples {just let me collect the most representative}]
I am currently trying to determine the extent of the project .
Trying to determine a outline so as to figure out how I would accomplish the
project.
I would be grateful to have help regarding certain questions :-
[Mostly for John Pye as he being the mentor to this project]
1) As some model have already been created , so do I have to expand the
model libraries of components of solar power plant by focusing on certain
aspect or create a model/templates to design power plants.
2) Does in this project a specific solar plant is targeted or aim is for for
general model to even incorporate the hybrid-solar power plants etc.
3) Do I still have chances to get accepted even approaching so late ?
{Because of intense anxiety, I was not able to resist to ask}.
4) I would also like to know how much is expected for this project and are
there any specific that I should know regarding this project or Ascend.
I would be thankful if you could provide me with further details or some
more description or any specific regarding the approach on the
above-mentioned project which would help me in writing the proposal or which
would direct me to speed up in understanding the project.
