Well, you are not alone anyway :-)

I use the dblatex for the following reasons:

1. the latex toolchain is used by other tools, so most of the dblatex
chain is needed anyway, so the extra is minimal
2. when I started with Asciidoc fop wasn't in the distro's repository
& I'm a lazy installer
3. although fop is now in the repository (I've changed distros since
then), it isn't updated whereas dblatex is (dunno why its not)

But being XMLatexophobic I can't help with your problem except to note
that it looks like its inside dblatex so you might ask there.
