In order to write the Waf book (see http://waf.googlecode.com), the main
developer used diagrams from graphviz (.dot) or dia (.dia). The strategy he
chose was :

   - Convert diagrams from Graphviz and Dia formats to EPS (encapsulated
   postscript)
   - Convert the EPS into PNG at an acceptable resolution for screen display
   in HTML
   - Insert at the beginning of the book asciidoc source:

{set:PIC:{backend@docbook:.eps:.png}}

   - Use the following kind of lines to conditionally include either the
   .eps files for PDF output or .png for (X)HTML:

image::core{PIC}["Module
dependencies"{backend@docbook:,height=400:},align="center"]

A better macro could probably be written to be even clearer, but that does
the job quite correctly. You can see links to the Waf book (v1.6) in HTML
and PDF formats on the homepage.

Hope that helps,
Lionel
