You definitely want to continue your good OOP encapsulation practices
in .NET and create a class that does all that.  This was the first
thing I wrote when I moved to  .NET.

Microsoft also has created a Data Access Application block which does
much of this for you. I kow of people who have simply extended it to
meet their own personal preferences.
